Rosa 'Neige d'Avril'
Iris sibirica 'Caesar's Brother'

La floraison du rosier 'Neige d'Avril' est unique mais abondante. Une fois celle-ci et celle des iris achevées, une campanule à feuilles de pêcher blanche (campanula persifolia 'Alba') puis un hortensia violet (hydrangea macrophylla) prennent le relais. En fin d'hiver, ce sont des hellébores d'Orient pourpres (helleborus orientalis) puis un camélia rose (camellia williamsii 'Anticipation') qui fleurissent.

Early rose 'Neige d'Avril' is a once-flowering rambler with luxuriant blooms. Once it and the irises have finished blooming a white peach-leaved bellflower (campanula persifolia 'Alba') then a purple mophead hydrangea (hydrangea macrophylla) take over. At the end of winter the purple lenten roses (helleborus orientalis) then a pink camellia (camellia williamsii 'Anticipation') start flowering.

Rosa 'Marie Pavie' - Heuchera 'Frosted Violet' - Digitalis purpurea - Lupinus 'La Demoiselle'

Le rosier 'Ballerina' (en boutons sur l'image) fait ses premières fleurs après celles de 'Marie Pavie' qui remonte régulièrement jusqu'en automne. Au printemps, ce sont des narcisses qui fleurissent puis des ancolies (aquilegia vulgaris). Le feuillage de l'heuchère pourpre est persistant et présente donc un intérêt toute l'année.

Rose 'Ballerina' (in buds in the picture) starts blooming after rose 'Marie Pavie' which flowers repeatedly until autumn. In spring follow narcissi and columbines (aquilegia vulgaris). The leaves of the purple heuchera do not fall and have a lot of interest all year round.

Une fois le pic de floraison de juin terminé viennent les anthémis (anthemis tinctoria 'Sauce Hollandaise'), rudbeckias (rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm') et divers dahlias jusqu'aux premières gelées. A partir de l'automne et durant l'hiver, les branches dénudées du cornouiller (cornus alba 'Sibirica') prennent une belle teinte rouge.

After the blooming peak in June come the chamomiles (anthemis tinctoria 'Sauce Hollandaise'), rudbeckias (rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm') and various dahlias until the first frost. In autumn and winter the bare stems of the Siberian dogwood (cornus alba 'Sibirica') blaze with a vivid red colour.

Rosa 'Ghislaine de Féligonde' - Clematis 'The President'

Après cette première floraison, la remontée du rosier 'Ghislaine de Féligonde' est plus discrète. La clématite 'The President' offre une à deux remontées au cours de l'été.

After blooming for the first time rose 'Ghislaine de Féligonde' repeats flowering more subtly. Clematis 'The President' offers two or three blooming periods during summer.

Rosa 'Blue for You' - Hebe topiaria

Les rosiers 'Crème de la Crème' et 'Blue for You' sont très florifères et remontants. Ils sont parfumés. Le parfum de 'Blue for You' associe violette et citron. La véronique arbustive (hebe topiaria) qui prenait trop d'ampleur a été remplacée par trois pieds de géraniums vivaces : geranium renardii 'Stéphanie', mauve pâle à feuillage persistant qui fleurit en premier, geranium magnificum 'Rosemoor', violet à la floraison éclatante et geranium 'Rozanne', violet également à très longue floraison. Entre les géraniums à feuillage caduc, des bulbes de petits narcisses (narcissus 'Tête-à-tête') donnent des fleurs au début du printemps. Le feuillage des narcisses, qu'il faut laisser sécher en place après la floraison pour permettre la régénération des bulbes, est dissimulé par celui des géraniums.

Roses 'Crème de la Crème' and 'Blue for You' repeat their abundant blooming. They have a nice scent. 'Blue for You' smells of violet and lemon. Hebe topiaria had become too big and was replaced with three clumps of hardy geraniums: geranium renardii 'Stéphanie' (light mauve evergreen which flowers first), geranium magnificum 'Rosemoor' (vivid purple blooms) and geranium 'Rozanne' (long-flowering purple blooms). Between the geraniums bulbs of small narcissi (narcissus 'Tête-à-tête') start blooming in early spring. The leaves of the narcissi, which have to be left after blooming to allow for bulb regeneration, are hidden by the foliage of the geraniums.

Rosa 'Felicia' - Lupinus 'Persian Slipper' - Leucanthemum vulgare

Le rosier 'Felicia', un hybride de moschata, est remontant. Sa première floraison intervient en même temps que celle du lupin 'Persian Slipper'. Les marguerites des champs (leucanthemum vulgare) ont poussé spontanément au jardin.

Rose 'Felicia' (moschata hybrid) repeats its flowering. Its first blooms appear at the same time as those of lupin 'Persian Slipper'. Ox-eye daisies (leucanthemum vulgare) regularly self-seed in the garden.

Rosa 'Maria Theresia' - Geranium sanguineum - Senecio polyodon - Skimmia 'Obsession'

Le géranium sanguin était déjà en place lorsque nous avons acquis la maison il y a une quinzaine d'années. Il fleurit régulièrement. Il faut le retailler pour maintenir son port plus compact. Le séneçon rose (senecio polyodon) est une vivace à courte vie qui a disparu depuis. Sur le côté droit, on devine le feuillage d'un chrysanthème (chrysanthemum 'Mei Kyo') et au fond celui d'un skimmia 'Obsession' qui produit de nombreuses baies, rougissant en fin d'année, et présente l'avantage d'être hermaphrodite, la plupart des skimmias étant dioïques.

Bloody geraniums were already there when we bought the house about fifteen years ago. They flower regularly. You have to prune them to keep them compact. Senecio polyodon is a short-lived perennial that has now disappeared from the garden. On the right-hand side we can just see the leaves of a chrysanthemum ('Mei Kyo') and in the far left-hand corner skimmia 'Obsession' produces a lot of berries which become red towards the end of the year. This plant offers the advantage of being a hermaphrodite whereas most other skimmias are either male or female.

Rosa 'Garden of Roses' - Cotinus coggygria 'Grace' - Paeonia 'Lucky Day' - Digitalis purpurea

La pivoine 'Lucky Day' (rose à fleurs simples ne nécessitant pas de tuteurage) termine sa floraison. Le rosier 'Garden of Roses' va fleurir par vagues jusqu'en automne, moment où l'aster au premier plan (aster novae-angliae 'Vibrant Dome') va commencer sa floraison. Le feuillage du cotinus va passer du pourpre au rouge avant de tomber.

Peony 'Lucky Day' (pink with single flowers, staking not necessary) has almost finished blooming. Rose 'Garden of Roses' will bloom in succession until autumn, when the aster in the foreground (aster novae-angliae 'Vibrant Dome') will take over. The leaves of the cotinus will switch from purple to red before falling.

Au premier plan, pour prendre le relais, il y a une campanule blanche double (campanula persicifolia 'La Bonne Amie') et un coreopsis à port compact qui produira une nuée de fleurs jaunes (coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb'). À la fin de l'été, au second plan, un aster blanc (aster novi-belgii 'White Ladies') fleurit et au printemps suivant viennent les narcisses.

To take over in the foreground there are double white peach-leaved bellflowers (campanula persicifolia 'La Bonne Amie') and a compact coreopsis (coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb') which will produce a myriad of yellow flowers. At the end of summer in the middle ground a white aster (aster novi-belgii 'White Ladies') starts blooming and in the next spring narcissi will replace them.
